The Units are 'functional' devices which appropriate their design and aesthetic from equipment used by NASA, ESA and the Russian space agencies' bioscience programmes over the last 30 years. In most cases materials, dimensions and purpose have been changed, creating new objects which suggest a historical space usage while carrying out new forms of experimentation. Each unit employs sound as part of the experiment, the sounds being recordings of transmissions from space craft and satellites functioning during the time of the original experiment.
