Micropalypse Modular is an extension of the original Micropalypse concept and forms part of The Haunting Series. In the modular version the scale is reduced to 1:144 and the scenes are monochrome. Here the banality of the texture of disaster is brought into focus and exaggerated. Everyday objects mix with the abstract and the exotic in the levelling soup of atrocity. At points vaguely recognisable science fiction objects can be discerned amongst the habitual debris we would expect. The modules allow us to contemplate in detail the 'world made strange' that we find so fascinating in our consumption of the catastrophic.

The modular sections combine to form stage sets in both physical and digital formats, as a digital 3D rendered interpretation is developed in parallel. In an exhibition context specialised miniature spotlighting accentuates the drama and the voyeurism of the scenes before us.

As is characteristic of works developed within the arc of The Haunting Series, it is hard to know whether the portrayals of catastrophic scenarios are documentation or premonition.
